DVB Devices

This page provides an overview of DVB reception devices that can be used with EUMETCast.

For EUMETCast services using DVB-S, most DVB devices that support IP data reception can be used.

For EUMETCast Europe using DVB-S2, check the current list of supported devices before selecting hardware.

Device Types

DVB reception devices are generally available in three forms:

Internal DVB Cards

Internal DVB cards are installed directly in the reception PC and normally use a PCI or PCIe interface.

Before purchasing a card, verify that the interface and PCI/PCIe version are compatible with the computer.

DVB Router Receivers

DVB router receivers are standalone devices that receive the satellite data stream and forward the multicast IP traffic to the local network.

The reception PC connects to the receiver through a standard Ethernet network interface.

USB DVB Receivers

USB DVB receivers provide functionality similar to an internal DVB card but connect externally through USB.

Ensure that the receiver and operating system are compatible. USB 2.0 or newer is recommended.

Compatibility

Device compatibility depends on the EUMETCast service, operating system and receiver drivers. Refer to the current EUMETCast documentation before purchasing or replacing reception hardware.
