The mywiki site wants to provide an overview and technical support for persons using the services provided within the hochstaffl.eu and hochstaffl.local domain. Services which are delivered via the hochstaffl.eu domain can be accessed from anywhere via the internet. Some services can be used as a anonymous user where some require credential informations to login. The hochstaffl.local domain which comprises devices and users within the local network have access to some additional services. These services in general require a fast connection for proper operation hence only the internal gigabit network provides the sufficient data rate. This wiki is under continuous modification and will be extended in different topics over time. If new services are implemented detailed descriptions on how the service can be used as well as technical support will be added to this wiki.
The hochstaffl.eu web portal provides different services to domain users as well as external users. Most services can be accessed from any browser via the internet. The subsequent pages in this section provide detailed information on services provided and how they can be used by different users. The services can be accessed via the following link. An Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) server is the server that hosts Windows-based programs or the full Windows desktop that are accessed from remote users via a network connection. Users connect to the RDSH server via the above provided web-link to access session-based desktops and published applications. In addition to full desktops, publishes RemoteApp programs that run side by side with local applications. Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
Users can connect to an RDSH server to run programs, to save files, and to use network resources on that server. In the hochstaffl.eu domain the remote app programs comprise Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint. The benefits of delivering or applications through RDSH instead of installing apps on your home computer or laptop include users' ability to access apps from the field or at home using devices that wouldn't normally support those apps or Windows (e.g. this services are also available for Mac-Users)! When a user accesses a program on an RD Session Host server, the program execution occurs on the server. Each user sees only their individual session. The session is managed transparently by the server operating system and is independent of any other client session.
Users can access an RDSH server from within the hochstaffl.local network or from the Internet by using Remote Desktop Connection. RDSH let you connect to your local computer at home from anywhere providing the full desktop and functional range of your home computer. In that remote session you are working on your machine located within the local network at home. The RDSH server acts as a gateway to root the display output and instructions that are sent via the internet to your home computer and vice versa.
A virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is a desktop-oriented service that hosts user desktop environments on remote servers. Users access the desktops over a network. For users, this means they can access their desktop from any location, without having to use a single client device. Since the resources are centralized, users moving between work locations can still access the same desktop environment with their applications and data.
